JACOB VILATÓ

Figurative expressionism

In his life, as in his paintings, Jacob Vilató does not work with blank canvases, but rather builds a story layer by layer in which characters coexist who would never have met if not for his canvases, on which as he progresses, he discovers among the strokes and colors the characters who will finally live in them. The same work is the result of several fused stories.
Living in a constant struggle against prejudice, and even though he has recurring fetish themes, it is expressly difficult to fit his art into a defined style.
His obsessions are his most powerful source of inspiration, and each of his works is markedly his own and takes a part of him in a highly self-destructive process that can last for hours, days, or months.
Vilató showed his work to the public for the first time at the end of 2019, on the eve of a pandemic that led him to a period of deep introspection in 2020, and then to fully immerse himself in a creative process that gave birth to “Meninas Feas” an individual exhibition that is currently touring Mexico.
