At JINGART Beijing, we present three works by Spanish contemporary surrealist rising star Auguste Villia: My Favorite Flower, The Kite, and Baby’s Toy. The artist continues his signature use of large eyes to observe the world, inviting us into a dreamlike, poetic space where we are met with a quiet, contemplative gaze.
Moving on to the works of Juan Miguel Palacios and Javi Caboné, we enter a world of color, abstraction, and surreal metaphors. Palacios’ Variations-XX and Variations-LXIII continue his philosophical exploration of existence and nothingness. Caboné’s The Show Must Go On presents his distinctive reflections on society, life, and art.
Jamie Sangro brings us works that blend wartime photographs with iconic cartoon imagery—No Parking and Air Raid. These black-and-white images from WWI and WWII are transformed with a realist approach, suggesting the determinism of adult life. The suddenness of events and the loss of innocence remind us that life, as a battlefield, is often chaotic, yet we must face it with courage. Nearby, surrealist artist Alol’s Open serves as a reminder that within the vastness of the soul, there is a unique core supporting our journey.
Animal imagery takes center stage in the works of Sesk Abad and Debbie Rida. Debbie’s Jurassic Friends #3 and Sesk’s Friends and My Brothers juxtapose movement and stillness, as dinosaurs and creatures from another era joyfully parade in Debbie’s work, while Sesk’s painting, influenced by Cézanne, blurs the background to focus our attention on the central animal figures. These works reflect on the relationship between humans and nature, the boundary between reality and innocence, and explore a dystopian world, prompting us to reconsider our role in nature.
